Set keyboard repeat rate and delay in MacOS

18 February 2024 - Thomas Damgaard

When holding down a key switch on the keyboard, the key press will repeat after a short delay. The delay from when the key is pressed until the key press is repeated is called the Keyboard Repeat Delay. The rate at which key presses repeats when a button is held down is called the Keyboard Repeat Rate.

The defaults a too slow for me.

This is how to increase the keyboard repeat rate and decrease the keyboard repeat delay in MacOS:

  1. Open Apple Menu –> System Preferences –> Keyboard
  2. Drag the slider for Key Repeat to Fast.
  3. Drag the slider for Delay Until Repeat to Short
