How to increase Keyboard Repeat Rate in Windows

23 December 2022 - Thomas Damgaard

When holding down a key switch on the keyboard, the key press will repeat after a short delay. The delay from when the key is pressed until Windows starts repeating the key press is called the Keyboard Repeat Delay. The rate at which Windows repeats key presses when a button is held down is called the Keyboard Repeat Rate.

The defaults are way too slow for me.

To change keyboard repeat rate and repeat delay follow these steps:

  1. Go to Control Panel –> Keyboard Properties
  2. Drag slider for Repeat delay to Short.
  3. Drag slider for Repeat rate to Fast.
