DNS lookups through SOCKS proxy with Firefox

1 April 2022 - Thomas Damgaard

By default, when Firefox is configured to use a SOCKS proxy, it still uses the operating system to do DNS lookups. This may compromise the security or privacy of the user.

Fortunately, this is quite easy to fix:

Type in about:config in the URL bar.

Find network.proxy.SOCKS_remote_dns and set it to True.

Restart Firefox.
